Creating a strong password is extremely important to prevent hackers and other problems from occurring. According to traditional ways, a strong password must include the following:

  • 12 or more Characters: Passwords need to be longer than 12 characters. However, there is no length that a password must be or that everyone agrees on. With that being said the general rule is a minimum character of 12-14 should be used. Keep in mind the longer a password is the better.
  • Uses Numbers, Capital Letters, Symbols, and Lower-Case Letters: Using a mix of these different characters is going to make it harder to guess and harder for a hacker to get into.
  • Is not an Obvious Dictionary Word: Using words from a dictionary or combinations of common words is going to be bad. These passwords are easy to guess because they are very simple.
  • Doesn’t Rely on Obvious Substitutions: Using common substitutions is going to make it easy for a person to guess your password. For example, changing an o with a zero is going to be pretty obvious.

Mix up your passwords with different signs, symbols, letters, and upper/lower case letters. Make a password longer. Make passwords difficult to guess.

How to Create a Password You’ll Remember

With the tips to create a strong password above, you could simply bash on the keyboard and have a strong password. However, you are never going to be able to remember these ridiculous passwords. Even though this password would be very strong it would be hard to keep track of them all.

Memorizing a strong password is hard for many people unless you are lucky and have a photographic memory. You would have to sit and stare at your passwords like you were studying for an exam. Plus, password generators usually do not make the password simple to remember. This is where the password manager comes in handy. It will generate strong passwords.

For a person to memorize a password that is not something obvious they may need to use a trick to memorize it. Or they may want to download a password manager. If you do not want the password manager, consider coming up with a sentence that helps. For example, make a sentence that uses numbers and letters that pertains to your password.
